Somewhere in the last twenty years, businesses stopped owning their software — and the software industry threw a party to celebrate.

They called it SaaS. Recurring revenue. Annual contracts. Net retention. Every one of those phrases means the same thing from where you're sitting: **rent.**

You don't own a single system your company runs on. You lease access to all of them — a CRM here, an ERP there, a dozen dashboards nobody remembers approving — each priced per seat, each renewed forever, each holding a piece of your business hostage in someone else's cloud. The vendor calls your data "the platform."

Rent has three properties. It never ends. It always rises. And the day you stop paying, you're left with nothing — not the software, not the workflows your team spent years building into it, often not even your own records in a form you can open.

No sane owner would run a factory on rented machines that vanish the moment a payment lapses. Yet that's precisely how you run the systems your business lives on. The industry didn't trick you into this. It just made sure you never had another option.

## How it got this way

Building custom software used to be brutally expensive. Only giants could afford systems shaped to their business. Everyone else got the template: generic tools, built for the average of ten thousand companies, fitting none of them. You didn't bend the software to your business. You bent your business to the software, and then paid by the head for the privilege.

SaaS was the rational answer to that world. That world is gone.

That's the real reason you rent instead of own: not because you couldn't get software built, but because you couldn't keep a software team.

## What we believe

**1. Software is property, not rent.**
Your software deserves the same standard you apply to everything else you run your business on: bought, owned, yours.

**2. Your systems run on your machines.**
The data your company lives on does not belong in a vendor's cloud, subject to a vendor's outages, a vendor's price hikes, and a vendor's acquisition by whoever buys them next. It belongs on hardware you control, behind your own door.

**3. Headcount is not a pricing model.**
Your fortieth hire should not raise your software bill. A seat tax is a tax on growth — collected by companies that did nothing to earn it except count your employees. We refuse to charge it.

**4. Custom is no longer a luxury.**
"Good enough" was never good. It was just all you could afford. That excuse has expired. Software should fit the business — never the other way around.

**5. Software's life begins after deployment.**
Anyone can generate an app now. Watch the demo, applaud, then ask the only question that matters: *who maintains it in year three?* The long, unglamorous decades after launch are the product. Everything before that is a party trick.

**6. The freedom to leave is the reason to stay.**
If a vendor needs a contract to keep you, the product has already failed. The code is yours. The systems run where you choose. Even the factory that builds them can live on your own metal. You can walk away with everything, any day — which is exactly why you won't need to.

Hire a hundred people; your software bill won't notice. And the factory itself is not a cage — host it with us because it's convenient, or bring the whole thing inside your walls because you can.

We are not building another tool for developers. We are building ownership for everyone who was told — politely, quarterly, in perpetuity — that they had to rent.
